Move the town board election to November
Typical West Lakeland November election turnout is about 70 – 90%. But for March elections, it is has been as low as 1.2%, so the town board is selected by just a handful of residents. Besides increasing voter participation there will be modest savings for election judge pay, clerk time, and travel costs.
There are two routes to Even Year November elections. One is a resolution by the board to get the process started. The second is a resolution by the voters at the annual meeting. Both routes lead to a ballot question to be voted at the next town election.
